Times of transition are difficult. When a loved one enters a transitional phase of life, the entire family system is impacted. These transitions can include events such as:
-Checking into treatment for substance use, eating disorders, process addictions, or gambling addiction
-Going to college
-Leaving home
-Getting married
-Moving
-Changing careers
-Divorce
-Death in the family
-Having a baby
These are just a few examples of major transitional events that can leave a void in the family system. This void can leave the rest of the family feeling confused, scared, and/or unsure about what to do. I provide guidance and assist my clients with successfully navigating these challenging times in a way that is healthy and conducive to re-stabilizing the family system and achieving self-determined goals. Contact me today for a free consultation to see how I can be of service to you and your family!
When a loved one is suffering from a substance use disorder, it can be scary and overwhelming to even begin thinking about where to start. I begin by conducting an assessment to determine the proper level of care for your loved one. Once this is determined, I continue to work with you and your family to determine the best treatment option for your loved one. I contact potential facilities and do the investigative work for you to ensure your loved one will receive the highest quality of care. After completing this process, I present to you the best options for your loved one and collaborate with you to determine the best fit to meet your needs. I will continue to assist you with navigating the admissions process and arrange transportation if needed (additional fee) to ensure that your loved one arrives to their destination safely. My main goals are to use my knowledge, experience, network, and education to help you develop a plan that places your loved one in the best position possible to be successful and to relieve the stress of this process on you and your family.
When the loved one enters treatment, they are provided with the resources needed to achieve, maintain, and expand a lifestyle conducive to reaching their dreams and ambitions. But what often gets overlooked is the wellbeing of the family members that have also been impacted. Oftentimes, families have no idea what to do once their loved one admits into treatment. They are left scared, confused, and uncertain of their future. They want to be supportive and loving to the person in treatment, but are not sure how to do so without enabling. This is where I come in.
I provide guidance and assist my clients with navigating this transitional phase into a healthier life. If retained, my clients have my personal phone number and access to me 24/7 to address any questions or concerns that may arise about how to handle a situation. My main goal is to assist the family with navigating how to handle their loved one through the various stages of treatment while forming boundaries that are conducive to a healthy relational system.
Counselors and therapists in treatment settings are fantastic, knowledgeable, and empathetic human beings! However, their stressful responsibilities and limited availability may not meet your needs as a concerned family member. As a person in long-term recovery and as someone who has worked in the treatment industry, I have deep insight into the treatment and recovery process. I can minimize the strain on the therapist by allowing them to give me a brief summary of progress and then provide you with peace of mind by explaining in detail the progress your loved one is making, what the treatment process looks like, barriers they are encountering, and what to expect from them regarding their stage of treatment progress. In this way, I provide you with peace of mind while also creating more time for the therapist to focus on your loved one.
One major barrier to achieving and maintaining a functional family system is communication. Whether it be a couple, a parent and child, or an entire family system, effective communication is a critical piece in achieving stable relationships. With a M.S. degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, I am trained to provide effective communication training to ensure that you and your loved ones can connect in a deeper, more intimate way that enhances relationships and takes them to new heights.
